Has anyone considered buying an M1 Pro, M1 Max Macbook?

Has anyone actually bought an M1 Pro, M1 Max Macbook?

If so, what is it like?

Yes, very strongly considering a new Macbook, but might wait for an M2 Macbook Air.

I’m considering an M1 Macbook Air, I just can’t sell my existing laptop yet.

Can you get a trade-in for your existing laptop?

I don’t think so, it is a Windows laptop.

In that article is a link to Apple’s trade-in policy: https://www.apple.com/shop/trade-in

I used their wizard, and received a message:

Based on what you’ve told us, your computer is ready to recycle.
While it doesn’t qualify for a gift card, just send it to us and we’ll recycle it for free.

      🙁

It is a nice laptop, and I like it, I just think I’m ready for a change to a modern MacBook. I have a 2015 MacBook Air, which I like too.

Why not stick with the 2015 Macbook?

It can probably handle macOS Monterey.

I want to learn to build mobile apps for Android and iOS, and a fast processor radically decreases the time it takes to build the apps, both for testing & for production.

The Macbook Air is pretty slow, which is frustrating.

As I said, I’ll probably wait for the M2 Macbook Air, or for the price of the M1 Macbook Air to decrease when the M2 version comes out.

I went into the local Apple store but wasn’t blown away by the 14″ & !6″ Macbook Pros. The caveat is that I wasn’t able to test the CPU/CPU in any meaningful way as there was no access to sudo.

I think I will still sell my Lenovo laptop, but put the money toward my business.

I heard a rumour with next year’s M2, Apple will be releasing an “M2 MacBook” which will sit between the MacBook Air & MacBook Pro.

I am sure the higher-end Windows laptops will come with something like a dedicated 6GB/8GB GPU, but we should find out how they compare in two days time!

Do you know what Lenovo Australia offered for trading in my X1 Nano 1TB SSD laptop worth $3600 new?

      $150.

Oh shit, that’s ridiculous. That’s less than 5% of the original value. What year is it?

          It’s a 2020 model, 11th-gen CPU. The 12th-gen isn’t out, yet, as we know.

So it’s lost 95% of its value in 18 months.

          Thanks, Lenovo.

Intel claims it’s 12th gen mobile CPUs are faster than the Apple M1 Pro.

Based on an 18 month Lenovo laptop returning 5% of its value I might be more tempted to opt for an Apple MacBook, which I believe hold their value more.

        Yes, agreed.

Bear in mind that 5% value was only the trade-in value, not the price you could get for someone wanting to buy it 2nd hand off you.

I’m realizing I’m getting caught up in the hype cycle.

I enjoy watching from the sidelines, but I will have to remember I don’t need to upgrade to the latest new shiny thing.

Computer technology doesn’t seem to be like classic cars, or classic shoes or handbags, they really age fast.

I tend to agree with you, so I shouldn’t talk about Apple M3 CPUs, should I Steve? They’re out at the end of 2023.

In the video above, they say M2 chips won’t be a big increase in performance over M1 chips (maybe 10%).

So why not get a M1 Pro Macbook, Steve?

            I think I will take Blossum’s wisdom.

I truly don’t need the latest and greatest.

The Apple fanboys put so much spin and hype on their rumours, it’s seductive.

I am sure Apple helps feed these rumours.

Got close to buying an iPad today. Added it to my Apple.com bag. Closed the Apple store tab, and resumed my work.

8 hours later I am glad I have not bought the iPad, I don’t need it.
