Keymaster::In that article is a link to Apple’s trade-in policy: https://www.apple.com/shop/trade-in
I used their wizard, and received a message:
Based on what you’ve told us, your computer is ready to recycle.
While it doesn’t qualify for a gift card, just send it to us and we’ll recycle it for free.🙁

Keymaster::I want to learn to build mobile apps for Android and iOS, and a fast processor radically decreases the time it takes to build the apps, both for testing & for production.
The Macbook Air is pretty slow, which is frustrating.
As I said, I’ll probably wait for the M2 Macbook Air, or for the price of the M1 Macbook Air to decrease when the M2 version comes out.

Participant::I’ve heard the new Intel 12th generation CPUs are giving Apple M1, M1 Pro, M1 Max a run for their money. Here’s an interesting article discussing this.
Cheers.

Keymaster::Intel claims it’s 12th gen mobile CPUs are faster than the Apple M1 Pro.
Based on an 18 month Lenovo laptop returning 5% of its value I might be more tempted to opt for an Apple MacBook, which I believe hold their value more.

Participant::I tend to agree with you, so I shouldn’t talk about Apple M3 CPUs, should I Steve? They’re out at the end of 2023.
In the video above, they say M2 chips won’t be a big increase in performance over M1 chips (maybe 10%).
So why not get a M1 Pro Macbook, Steve?

Keymaster::Apple might be delaying the M2 chip.
TLDR: the M2 coming in the Apple WWDC might be a ‘modified M1’ with the same A15 architecture, rather than the new A16 architecture, and so the performance upgrade might not be as much as hoped for.

Keymaster::And here it is: the M2 Macbook Air.
It looks better than the 13″ M2 Macbook Pro, which has no pro ports and offers cooling fans as its pro feature.
I will wait until the 14″ M2 MacBook Pro.

Keymaster::I am realising more and more it is so easy to get caught up in the hype and drool over the new design and performance of these new MacBooks, but as a front-end website developer, I don’t need a powerful laptop or even the latest laptop.
Increasingly happy to wait for my current 2 year old laptop to stop performing well.
